Farningham
Well here it is the report from the big one. Farningham turned up with
out an umpire bonus number one, we bat bonus number two theres only 10
of them, happy days. We start off batting as if its a 20/20 match runs
from everyone who bats, with Simon Wren 72 and John Osborne 42 the stars,
gives Stan the chance to declare after 40 overs with 221 on the board.
60 overs to bowl a side out and win the league, a dream start after the
first 10 overs Farningham are 10 for 5 with Muzza and yours truly having
abit of fun, but it was left to Tidy to live up to his name to finish
off, taking the final 4 wickets.
Sounds as good as it feels League Champions!! a good effort
all year from alot of people, to go unbeaten in the league is good, but
the best part was the team spirit evryone played their part and done their
bit when asked, roll on next year.
Harvel
At last we managed to put a side away. Sir Stanley won the toss on a very
green strip and asked us bowlers to do our bit. We didn't manage to bowl
the side out, but kept them down to 109 from their 50 overs, wickets for
Muzza (3-28), Macca (3-27) and Tidy(2-18). We were hopefull that our batsman
could see us home before the 50th over and they went bananas knocking
the runs off in 18.3 overs with Dave Stewart hammering himself a fifty.
Last week I asked Hythe for some help as they played Bickley Park and
they have, now on the final week of the season its all in our hands. All
I can ask for now is if people are not doing anything next week to come
and surport us!
Linden Park
Guess what folks, another game that went to the last over. Linden Park
won the toss and batted and after losing a earlier wicket batted well
to make 189 for the loss of 8 wickets. This total should have never been
enough on another good Park batting wicket and another good start from
Stan and this time Dave Stewart made it look like it was going to be easy,
then the fun began and from making it look easy we made it hard for ourselves
due to some bad shot selection and one bad bit of running. I believe that
some of the lads have got to learn not every ball needs to go for 4 or
6 and singles are good and keep the score moving. Well its 2 to go now
and were now in second place, so all to play for and hope our local "friends"
Hythe can help us out a little.
Bickley Park
As with 90% of games the only winner was the rain.
Having been put in we didn't make the most of a good track, the only real
plus point was we batted most of our overs, which in the end played a
big part in us getting anything out of the game. A few people got starts
like Muzza (30) and Macca Jr (21) but no one pushed on. 141 could have
made it a interesting game if we could get quick wickets and after 12
overs we had them 30 for 2, so no one will ever know. The draw makes it
all tight at the top and with Orpington winning makes it more of a 3 horse
race.
Catford & Cyphers
Day started well with everyone getting to the ground
later than me due to road works. With them winning the toss due to only
dee ess and myself being there they decided to bat, odd decision l felt
as a couple of damp patches on the wicket. Once all there we started well
with Muzza and Heathy openning the bowling and making use of the wicket,
but Anthony Thompson and Billy Hamnett calmed the ship and put on about
100 runs between them, before pressure from the clubhouse more than the
pitch removed Thompson. 205 on what was a batsman friendly track to me
was not going to be enough, a good start from Stan and Andy before a harsh
dismismal off Stan for 35, then it was a case of everyone doing their
bit and they all did and when Tom Matcham smashed the last ball straight
past the bowler for 4 we had won again. So in answer to the questions
before, Billy Hamnetts innings was not one of the best as I'm sure he
would admit, but he stuck it out and got the runs and that is what counts,
and that is what we have to do, you can not always play to the top of
your levels and have to fight. Four to go and now the real test of the
fighting spirit.
Holmesdale
Good overall performance that showed strength in depth
of the team. After a poorish start losing 4 wickets for not very many,
Stretch and Oz steadied the ship with a fine partnership - Stretch eventually
finishing on 80 odd not out and Oz getting between 49 and 51 depending
on which scorer you asked. A quickfire cameo performance from Nigel Laws
took us past the 200 mark. Second half we bowled steadily although the
oppo were up with the run rate. However two blinding one-handed catches
from "junior" George and "senior" Stan and a well
executed run out by Nigel, turned the tide in our favour. Unfortunately
we couldn't get the last man out. Still unbeaten. Still top of the League.
2s v Bromley Common
Bit like the Godden cup this one, won the toss batted
first scored 240 and couldn't get a side out. On the batting front good
knocks from Martyn (74), Stan (46), Will (33) and a cameo from George
(18 off 8 balls) gave us the platform to bowl at, but they never really
looked like chasing. We didn't help ourselves with a few dropped catches
and on another day the throws at the stumps would have hit rather than
just missing, but thats the way the cookie crumbles. Still top of the
league and undefeated in 5 not a bad start.
2's V Barbados Overseas
4 out of 4 and each one a thriller, will the heart
take this all year? First we got there late due to going the wrong way
(opps!) and it was raining, that forced the game to be reduced to 44 overs
and the way BOCA started you would have thought it was 44 balls. Dream
start with the opener smashing Muzzas first ball straight to Martyn at
cover. From then on some straight bowling from Muzza and Macca reduced
BOCA to 41 - 6 and then some spirted batting got them to 105 - 9 before
all hell broke out. BOCA's number 11 Peter Galloway then decided to hit
the ball everywhere, with some of his sixes picked up on Gatwicks rader,
before Muzza picked up the final wicket to end up with 3 for 35, with
Macca taking 4 for 34 and young James Squire with 2 for 20 in his first
league game.
Having listened to his Skippers team talk about 58 overs being along time
to get the 170 runs needed Oz took this to heart and took his time getting
back to his crease and was run out, but to be fair to Oz he got back to
last weeks crease only problem was last weeks wicket was 6 inches further
up the square. We then managed to get ourselves to 41 for 5, before a
couple of old heads calmed it all back down, Gaz and Fiesty managed to
double the score, before young Ben and James both batted well, with Macca
and then Tidy came in and with Macca saw the twos home by 1 wicket with
4.5 overs left.
Saturday 2's V Downham & Bellingham
Two out of Two and each game into the last over, you
get your moneys worth in the twos this year. Sporting a side with serval
changes from the week before Stans bandwagon rolls on. On a damp wicket
at Downham the home side got off to a poor start with the opening partnership
of Paul "macca snr" McLeary and Chris Fiest kept both the runs
down and took wickets, McLeary ending with 4 for 29 from his 15 overs
and Fiest 2 for 36 from 14. They had surport from Dave Stewart 3 for 57
from 14.4 overs ,for the home side Colin Powell 49 and Sam Mendham 44
got the runs as they posted 162. In reply the Park lost Skipper Stan early
to the tight bowling of ex-footballer Steve Gritt who took 3 for 29 from
his 15 overs, but then as the week before everyone else chipped in Lyn
Woods, Will Purcell, Paul "Macca jnr" McNally, Nigel Arnold,
Paul McLeary and Chris Fiest all made double figures, but it was left
to Chairman Gary "Bigshow" Towse to play the world famous canoe
shot to take the Park home.
Colfeians
Played one won one and a full 20 points, great start
to the league season but it sounds a bit better than it really was. Having
won the toss Stan elected to bat first on a very good Park wicket. 194
for 8 off the full 50 overs seemed a usefull score with good knocks from
John Osbourne 26, the unfortuate Bryan Washer (who was run out by the
bowler touching the ball as Os blasted it back) 33, Stewart Murrell 26
Dave Stewart 28 and Paul McLeary 34 Not Out.
In reply the visitors got off to
a nightmare start losing the top 4 batsmen with only 25 runs on the board,
with wickets for Muz and Macca. Muzza plodded on to complete his 15 overs
taking 5 for 28, then walked off to go to work, interesting game had a
bat had a bowl then left the idea might catch on! After Muz leaving the
10 remaining Park players chased leather around the field as Old Colfeians
Skipper Steve Thomas smashed 106 not out helped by some erratic fielding
with a couple of dropped catches and some impressive overthrows. At the
end Paul Mcleary came back to take a third wicket to end with 3 for 45,
leaving 12 needed from the last Chris Feist over, with the Park surporters
cheering on the first ball was a dot delivery the second went for 4 and
the third was picked up by Will Purcell in the deep whos throw was straight
and true and Os did the rest leaving the Park winners by 7 runs.
