A hard and fast looking outfield (bearing in mind recent poor weather) and a wicket not unlike Hayes ie it had a bit of a ridge one end, a big score would be possible. Losing the toss we fielded and started ok. Rowey got the early wicket of the West Indian lad Richards after he had teed off at anything and was scoring at rate of knots whilst the other opening bowler got the wrong line and was easily put away for four, every other ball. After a friendly warning by Rowey about not running to him Ex Gravesender Pattenden thought he’d go for it anyway and immediately lost his partner. (Quote “ Come on lads new batsman in and a man with blood on his hands, should be another wicket soon”) The introduction of the spin twins AA and Bear once again slowed the home team up after being 70 off 15 overs and with the help of their batsman playing with Stock’s head who got 44 finally self destructed after he was told to hit it before the ball had reached him by his partner and two balls later was out. The fielding was immense then to resrict the home side to 149 for 9, 3 balls to go, no more points to get for bowling, and so last man promptly got run out by Pards on the penultimate ball to remain on 149, all out. The fielding was much better although still can be improved greatly but two run outs were good and there were 6 dropped catches. Some hard, one dolly, and those chances that Bear has been talking about (The 65% that we need to hold)

In reply, we got off to a good start with AA and Pards playing well, the first wicket falling on 60. Bear got 25 before being run out after a misfield had failed to run him out, in the excitement he forgot to get his bat back in quickly and still got run out. Hickers swash buckled his way to a quick 11, before George (22*) and another magnificent innings by AA (65*) finished it off in the 43rd over. 16 points in the bag. This was a good result against the ex premier league side but it did help us in that they were very disjointed as a side - despite having some very usefull batters and bowlers. The arguing and negativity between players on their part aided us, which just goes to prove we must stay cool and look at the positives even if things do not go our way.

Onwards and upwards though as much tougher games are ahead, with Broadstairs visiting next week….
