This should have been a close game as two of the alleged best sides in the league met, unfortunately only one side showed themselves worthy of their position in this game.
After much rain we did get started in the reduced overs (35) match. The bowling was ok, but the odd four ball proved to be expensive in the scheme of things, and home advantage to some extent was proven. Dropped catches 3 (might have been 4?) were costly as ok the lad dropped only got say 2 more runs before he was out but that could have been the next batsman! The fielding was also very poor early on as well. All that practice and training is wasted if we can’t do it, and sometimes the basics, on the field. After Hayes were only on 70ish at 20 overs that was quite good, but the batsman did not panic, they watched the ball carefully and whilst some balls did beat the bat, ‘spat’ off the wicket, they left or played straight rather than following it and did attack down the wicket more. So they managed to get 142 which was a pretty fair total on that wicket and was always perhaps a little more than it should have been but with the batsmen we have and the form they have been in shouldn’t be too much of a problem. How wrong you can be.
Poor shot selection and lack of application were at the fore. Only AA and Dom got something in the way of runs, AA got a good ball, Bear got a good ball, Hobo was unlucky but that’s what happens when things aren’t quite going for you in the context of the game, and perhaps Pards was unfortunate. This was a real test for all the batsman as whilst I agree we shouldn’t worry what the opposition are doing or who they’ve got we should be aware that Jackson for instance has 25 odd wickets already this season, got quite a few last season and ripped in to us at home last season, still counts for something as an indication of what he has the potential to do and indeed did.(After all he’s just a bloke with a bit of leather in his hands) That is ripped out top, middle and most of the bottom order. Fortunately the weather was our saviour in the end and we probably wouldn’t have lasted many more balls let alone overs longer. So we let the “76 year old spinner” add another 7 wickets to his tally. Their match report hurts but is true.

We must now forget this game, and continue now just as we were before it and concentrate in finishing as we started. Lets get to it and hope that this was a hard lesson learnt, its about time we did that to someone ourselves, keep taking each game as it comes but play to our potential.
