Another strong performance by the strength in depth side. We batted very nicely and built the innings up as we went, despite some good early tight bowling, we picked off the bad ball when it came and built up from there. AA with another ton is in fine form, Hobo showed his adaptability to batting anywhere looking comfortable wherever he is placed and worked nicely around AA, Hickers, Bear and Wrenny showing their consistent form also. Dee Ess at the end also showed he is adaptable and still a good player as he didn’t look out of place with some magnificent hitting at the end. We finished on 247 for 6.
After tea, several applications of Ibuprofen gel, alka seltzer, and paracetemol, we started well in the field again this week keeping it tight. They did try and go for it and were succeeding to a point helped by a few lack lustre and average fielding performances. As usual Bear And AA bowled well but the pitch was ideal for batting and made it difficult (Ideal in the sense it was a true pitch with pace)
Fortunately the old ball did swing when Smudger (me) was re introduced and whilst Ashford were now needing 10 an over but starting to connect, they lost those valuable wickets and ended up holding out for the draw. We nearly turned it right round on its head and got the win, as the last few batsmen played some silly shots and got out, but unfortunately just couldn’t get the last two.
Another fine team performance, and even thought some of us didn’t bat or bowl, we contributed in the field with a stop or a catch (well some did, some fielded like a complete arse, that’s another tale!) we must remember to keep working at it, keep concentrating and keep trying very hard if we want to be in and around those promotion places.
